Best Restaurants in Cozumel: My Favorite Places to Eat on the Island

Cozumel’s dining scene surprises many first-time visitors. Yes, you’ll find incredible Mexican cuisine with strong Yucatecan and Mayan influences, but the island offers so much more than tacos and margaritas.

From fresh seafood and beachfront ceviche to handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza, sushi, French cafés, Indian flavors, Spanish favorites, Caribbean dishes, and cozy local gems, Cozumel has something for every craving.

Whether you’re planning a casual lunch after diving, a sunset dinner by the water, or a special night out during your island getaway, these are five of our favorite Cozumel restaurants we think you’ll love.

Best for Authentic Mexican: Casa Mission

A guest favorite, coconut shrimp dinner

Coconut Shrimp - A guest favorite!

If you’re looking for the best traditional Mexican restaurant in Cozumel, Casa Mission is the place to go. From the moment you enter through the large iron gates of this classic Mexican hacienda, you’re swept back in time. Popular among locals and tourists alike, this authentic spot serves up delicious Mexican, Yucatecan, and vegetarian dishes.

Casa Mission offers a casual island dining experience set on the wraparound patio of this grand villa. Be sure to stroll the winding pathways through the flowering gardens — it’s perfect for a romantic dinner or a family meal. The staff is always friendly, the service is top-notch, and the mariachi bands create a fun and vibrant vibe!

The menu features specialties like Coconut Shrimp, Fresh Lobster, and the Mexican Combination Plate. One of my favorites? The Shrimp Steak — shrimp wrapped in bacon and topped with celery, garlic, guajillo chili, and butter sauce. Don’t skip the tableside sexy coffee for dessert — a guest favorite!

Ask for the 15% off dinner for divers offer — my friend Fabiola Miranda, co-owner and operations manager, loves welcoming our guests.

Best for Italian: K’ooben Laab

Kooben Laab Italian restaurant in Cozumel, a local dining favorite off the beaten path

Kooben Laab Italian Dining

If you’re craving fresh pasta and willing to venture off the beaten path, K’ooben Laab is my go-to Italian pick. One of Cozumel’s best-kept secrets, this cozy open-air rooftop restaurant is right in downtown Cozumel.

K’ooben Laab has a laid-back vibe with lush greenery and a rooftop view — the perfect spot to relax with friends and wine. Reservations are recommended during peak season!

Originally a bakery, K’ooben Laab still makes fresh pasta, bread, and sauces daily. Don’t miss the focaccia with oil to start — it’s worth every bite! The pasta dishes are simple but delicious, with plenty of options for sauces. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend an evening with good food, great conversation, and a glass of wine under the Cozumel sky.

Best Sunset Dinner: Sereno

There's always a scenic sunset view from sereno restaurant

If someone asks me where I'd send them for a memorable sunset dinner, Sereno is almost always near the top of my list.

Sereno is known for its stunning oceanfront location and a view of Cozumel sunsets that will blow you away. It’s one of the best restaurants in Cozumel for views!

Sereno’s menu focuses on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. You’ll find fresh fish, shrimp and standout dishes like the Black Ink Rice and Fish. Not into seafood?

Not into seafood? Sereno also offers excellent steaks, burgers, and chicken dishes, making it an easy choice when everyone in your group wants something different.

Don’t leave without catching a sunset here — few places on the island rival Sereno’s view.

Best Local Tacos & Tortas: Doña Chely

Traditional Mexican breakfast at Doña Chely in Cozumel – fresh chilaquiles with eggs and avocado

It doesn’t get more authentic than Dona Chely tacos!

Doña Chely is a beloved local taco stand known for its authentic Mexican flavors and laid-back vibe. Just a short walk from our We’ve Gone Coastal Cozumel Villa, it doesn’t get more authentic than this!

Don’t expect fancy — the menu is simple but the flavors are incredible. Generous portions, friendly staff, unbeatable prices. It’s perfect for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, plus outdoor seating to enjoy the warm island breeze.

If you're looking for a true local experience instead of a tourist restaurant, this is exactly the kind of place I love recommending.

Message me if you’d like exact directions to this hidden gem near Costa del Sol. You’ll be glad you did!

Best Ceviche & Fried Fish: Pescaderia San Carlos

Plate of freshly fried whole fish served at Pescaderia San Carlos in Cozumel.

For the best ceviche and fried fish on the island, head to Pescaderia San Carlos. Located in a charming rustic building on 50 Avenida Sur, this spot is a must for seafood lovers.

Try the whole fried fish — perfectly crispy and flaky — or their incredible ceviche with shrimp, octopus, conch, and fish. Marinated in lime juice with cilantro, red onions, and seasonings, it’s bright, fresh, and bursting with Caribbean flavor.

Don't expect fancy décor. This is one of those places where the incredibly fresh seafood is the star of the show.

There’s a reason locals love this place — it’s the real deal.
