If you only book one snorkeling excursion during your trip, make it El Cielo!
Accessible only by boat, El Cielo is famous for its crystal clear turquoise water, white sandbars, sea stars, stingrays, and snorkeling. It's one of Cozumel's most photographed destinations and one of the experiences guests rave about long after they head home.
Many excursions also include stops at Columbia Reef and El Cielito, giving you the chance to snorkel vibrant coral reefs before relaxing in waist-deep crystal-clear water.
Whether you're snorkeling with tropical fish, spotting stingrays, or floating in the shallow turquoise waters of El Cielito, it's an experience that belongs on every Cozumel itinerary.

Best Beaches in Cozumel
One of the things I love most about Cozumel is that no two sides of the island feel quite the same. The west coast is known for calmer Caribbean water, snorkeling, beach clubs, and easy access to food and drinks. Head to Cozumel's wild east side and everything changes. Think crashing waves, windswept beaches, rugged coastline, and miles of gorgeous Caribbean views.
Jefe' and I love exploring both, but I have a special place in my heart for the wild side. Give me a quiet beach, the sound of the waves, and a little sea glass hunting along the tideline and I'm a happy Dory!
A Few of My Favorite Cozumel Beaches
- Chen Río - A favorite for families thanks to the protected swimming areas created by the rocky shoreline.
- Playa de San Martín - Wild, windswept, and one of my favorite places for a long beach walk and a little sea glass hunting.
- Playa Bonita - Big ocean views, crashing waves, and that untamed east-side feeling I absolutely love.
- Punta Morena - A laid-back stop for ocean views, hammocks, and something cold to drink while listening to the surf.
- Paradise Beach - If you're looking for loungers, water activities, food, drinks, and a full-service beach day, this is a fun option.

Beach Bar Loop & Cozumel's Wild Side
If you ask me for one of my favorite ways to spend a day in Cozumel, the Beach Bar Loop is always near the top of my list! The island's wild east side feels completely different from the busier west coast. Think crashing waves, rugged beaches, colorful roadside bars, hammocks, cold drinks, and miles of gorgeous Caribbean coastline.
Jefe' and I have spent plenty of days exploring this side of the island, stopping for mojitos, tacos, ocean views, and whatever catches our attention along the way. That's part of the fun. The Beach Bar Loop isn't about rushing from one stop to the next. Slow down, wander a little, and enjoy the wild side of Cozumel.

Best Sunset Spots in Cozumel
Sunset in Cozumel is one of my favorite island traditions. No two are ever quite the same, and trust me, my phone is filled with hundreds of sunset photos to prove it! When the sun starts dropping toward the Caribbean, everything seems to slow down for a few minutes.
Because Cozumel's west coast faces the setting sun, you don't have to look far for a beautiful golden-hour view. Grab a cocktail, find a spot by the water, and enjoy the show.
A Few of My Favorite Cozumel Sunset Spots
- Avenida Rafael E. Melgar - Take an evening walk along Cozumel's waterfront and find your own perfect spot to watch the sky change colors.
- Money Bar Beach Club - Snorkel during the day, then stay for a cocktail and sunset over the Caribbean.
- La Monina - One of my favorite waterfront spots to slow down, enjoy dinner or drinks, and watch the sun disappear.
- Sky Reef or Sereno - Order something cold and settle in for golden hour by the water.
- We've Gone Coastal - Some of my favorite sunsets have been spent with Jefe' and our guests, simply slowing down and enjoying the view. From the Condo's oceanfront balcony or steps from the Villa at the community infinity pool, sunset never gets old.

Don't overplan sunset. Some of my favorite Cozumel evenings have happened simply because we noticed the sky changing, stopped what we were doing, and found a place to watch. Give yourself permission to slow down. That's part of the island magic.

What to Pack for Cozumel
Packing for Cozumel is refreshingly easy. Island life is casual, and trust me, you probably need less than you think. Says the woman who has packed for Cozumel more times than I can count and still occasionally forgets something!
My personal must-haves are reef-safe sunscreen, more than one swimsuit, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and comfortable shoes or sandals for exploring. If you're planning to visit Cozumel's wild east side or the Blowholes, I also recommend sturdy water shoes or sandals with good traction.

Bring a mix of pesos and a credit card. Pesos are especially handy for taxis, tips, small local restaurants, and beach bars. I prefer getting pesos from my bank before traveling or using a local ATM once I'm on the island.

Getting Around Cozumel
One of the things I love about Cozumel is how easy it is to explore. Taxis are plentiful, rental cars give you the freedom to wander, and hiring a local driver is one of my favorite recommendations for a carefree day exploring the island.
If you're planning the Beach Bar Loop or want to discover Cozumel's wild east side, renting a car or hiring a driver makes the day much easier. Just remember, if mojitos are part of the adventure, let someone else do the driving!

Always confirm your taxi fare before you get in. If you're renting a car, check the insurance details carefully before booking. Mexican liability insurance requirements can make that super-cheap online rental rate look very different once you arrive at the counter.

The Cozumel Blowholes: Where the Ocean Breathes
One of my favorite hidden gems on Cozumel's wild east side is a place where you can actually hear the ocean breathe. Waves crash beneath the rugged coral shoreline and force air and sea spray through natural openings in the rock, creating a deep whoosh and bursts of salty mist.
The first time you hear it, stop and listen. It really does sound like the Caribbean is taking a breath.
The Blowholes are raw, wild, and a little off the beaten path, which is exactly why I love them. No beach club. No big attraction. Just the power of the ocean putting on its own show.

Wear sturdy shoes or water shoes. The coral rock is sharp and uneven, and flip-flops are not your friend out here! And if you wander close enough to the action, be prepared to get a little salty. That's half the fun.

Grocery Shopping & Delivery in Cozumel
Whether you're stocking the fridge for a week, grabbing snacks for a beach day, or hunting down the perfect bottle of wine for sunset, grocery shopping in Cozumel is easier than you might think.
Jefe' and I shop on the island regularly, and where we go really depends on what we're looking for. Here are a few of the places we use and recommend most often.
Groceries
- Mega Soriana - Modern supermarket with fresh produce, cheeses, wine, sunscreen, and beach gear. Easy parking and centrally located.
- Chedraui - A great option for a full grocery run with a bakery, meat counter, produce, and liquor section.
- Super Aki - Budget-friendly and great for staples like tortillas, rice, canned goods, and snacks.
- OXXO - Perfect for quick drinks, snacks, and those last-minute essentials you suddenly realize you forgot.
Fresh Markets & Produce
- Mercado Municipal - Cozumel's local market for fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, tortillas, and a more local shopping experience.
- Street Produce Vendors - Keep your eyes open as you explore the island. You'll find small produce stands with pineapples, avocados, and whatever is fresh and in season.
Wine, Tequila & Liquor
- La Europea - One of my go-to stops for wine, tequila, and something special to enjoy during our stay.
- Sam's Club - Great for bulk shopping when you're staying longer or traveling with a group. Bring your membership card.
- Cava Del Duero - A great selection of wine and liquor at excellent prices. Jefe' and I have definitely spent a little time browsing the shelves here!
